Asian Soul Food Pa Pa Pa Paaanda

Produced by Shimi Labo

I want to make a cooking appliance that brings laughter to the worlds’ kitchens. With this passion in my heart, I put popular “Gyoza” and “Panda” together…and created a chaotic piece again this year. I don’t care about its quality! Get excited for this!

It is typical for mechatronic handwork to run out of time for the “show” even if the “think” and the “make” part could be managed. Shimi Labo covered all these and turned solenoid into entertainment. It’s amazing.

Semi-Auto Screw Sorting Machine

Produced by Kosen Teacher

I made a machine that sorts screws “semi-automatically”. It weighs a screw and decides its length. It moves the solenoid according to the length of the screw to make a pathway for it. It is such a waste not to reuse the huge amount of screws after breaking up robots from tech college robot contests!

It’s interesting how the solenoid “differentiates” screws with its movement and sorts them into different results. It feels like I’m watching how a human brain works. This machine also could be used for something else.

Chariot

Produced by Sendai KOSEN Matsunaga Lab.

Most vehicles have motors for their power. However, this Chariot travels by solenoid power. I came up with this revolutionary idea “to convert solenoids’ liner motion to a tire’s circular motion,” as solenoid is the only material to be used. It runs strong to live up to its namesake the chariot!

This piece shows how to change the solenoid’s linear motion into rotary motion with a simple structure. It seems easy but actually it is profound. It very well reproduces the change of reciprocating orbit by its own weight and articulates.

Kusurippi

Produced by Nekuaru Iizuka Branch

Have you ever forgotten to take your daily medicine? Let me introduce you to this alarm robot “Kusurippi” to prevent that issue. It has an inner clock system that cheerfully alarms your medicine time. Besides, it puts out a single dose of your medicine when you press its hat!

Medicine is something you “take in” but this is a machine that “takes out”. If Kusurippi becomes something appreciated in the family, just like Butsudan (mini shrine) that grandparents pray daily for, taking medicine would never be forgotten.

Full Automatic Fly Closer

Produced by Solenoid Contest Project

Made by Ariake Technical College Solenoid Contest Project. The world’s long-awaited robot is completed! It prevents men’s worst nightmare: “wide-open fly phenomenon!” Amazingly, it detects an open fly and automatically closes it. You don’t have to worry even when you find your fly open in public. It secretly closes it for you.

They poured themselves into “open flies” which probably happens only a couple times a year at most. As a man, it chills my spine when I imagine this machine going out of control and hurting my junk.

They reversed human’s instinctive action that “People tap their finger when annoyed” into “you feel annoyed when the finger is tapping”. I like how they put it into a simple mechanism.

Geo Socks

Produced by Uruka’s Township

The world’s first!? socks machine that automatically pairs up socks after washing then sends them flying to you. I developed this to help busy moms doing their big family’s laundry. It has a convenient drying function and crime prevention system with motion detection sensor. It is easy to use for any age as it is a simple interface with push button and voice assistance.

They applied for this contest by using men’s dream tool, “catapult,” for the main chore at home, laundry. I laughed hard at how they wasted their technology. Your wife might tell you to help her hang the laundry if you have time for this. After all it is a masterpiece in the wrong category.
